Individuals with diabetes have been targeted in a recent identity theft scam.  The identity theft scam is effective because the identity thieves know the intended victim has diabetes.

The identity theft scheme was first discovered in Mississippi. It was reported that diabetics were receiving phone calls from identity thieves claiming to be from the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi and the American Diabetes Association. The thieves were requesting personal information such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth and credit card information.

The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi and the American Diabetes Foundation reported these complaints to the Consumer Protection Division of the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office. While Mississippi is the only state to report the scam it is possible that it will spread to other states.

The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi and the American Diabetes Foundation will not initiate a phone call or send an email asking you to provide, update or confirm sensitive information.

Comerica refused to reimburse Experi-Metal. So the company sued the bank to recover their funds, alleging that the bank does not have sufficient online security and anti-fraud measures.

Comerica responded by filing a request for a summary judgement to dismiss the lawsuit. A judge has dismissed the request, and the course is now going to court.

In Ostego, Michigan a local summer baseball league coach was removed from his position Friday after school officials found out he was listed on the Michigan State Sex Offender Registry.

He was coaching for a week when an aware parent notified the school that the coach was a sex offender from 1996. As a parent, you should notify school officials if you are aware of these issues. You can do a search on “sex offender registry” to locate the appropriate resource in your area, and also check out Neighborhood Watch.

That the parent had to tell the school shows a flaw in the school’s system of effectively vetting individuals who will work with children. The school district went on to say that while they screen volunteers in the hundreds of background checks they do, this individual’s may have been overlooked.

Children’s innocence and vulnerability is the main target of thieves. It is a fact how children believe everything they see and hear. They do not have the power to discern truth from lies and fantasy from reality. This is the primary reason why children become one of the most common victims of identity theft. Never allow your child to suffer from the abuse of other people. His future lies in your hands as you find ways to have identity theft protection programs guarding his financial information. Securing your child’s identity is ensuring a brighter future for him.

As parents, it is good for you to know that you have the right to secure your child’s credit reports. The three major reporting agencies like Equifax and TransUnion can prepare a copy of your child’s credit reports which you can peruse in order for you to detect instances of fraudulent financial transactions which you and your child are not aware of.

I am only eighteen, and all of the fraud occurred in the last three years. i have never had a job or a credit card, and the only bank accounts i have had were a college savings and savings account, so it is fairly obvious that i could not have done any of the things on my credit report. how i go about solving this problem? and am i going to have to pay or be responsible for on my credit report?
